Knitting in the Park

We had a World Wide Knit in Public Day event today for the shop, and knit in the park.  It was so very much fun!

The little sheep wanted to knit a few stitches too!

Treasures of the Rainforest

Carolyn’s class did a presentation called “Treasures of the Rainforest” tonight.  She studied the Golden Lion Tamarin, and was able to create a mask and a report on this adorable endangered animal.Carolyn with her mask.Ignoring the bit where I had to run all over creation today looking for a yellow shirt (and I tried for yellow shorts but the best I could come up with was an orange skirt) because she told me just this morning that she needed one, it was an excellent presentation!

Stilts

I saved these until after the dance recital, just to avoid any last minute crutches!

Giving her a preview of the view when she grows about six more inches...

True Glee

Step 1: Get out a sprinkler.
Step 2: Turn it on just as the bus is coming down the street.
Step 3: Get the camera ready.

(Turns out both girls wanted to run through the sprinkler in swim suits, so we paused for a quick change. But seriously, the giggling…it was out of control!)

Hooray for the sprinkler!

Running through super cold water!

Strike a pose.

Wet, drippy hair on a hot summer day.

Dance Recital, 2012

Carolyn’s 4th, Anna’s 1st. It was crazy and fun and wonderful!

Dancing Sisters

Carolyn danced to:
* In The Navy (tap)
* Poison Ivy (jazz)
* Make Your Own Kind of Music (ballet)

Carolyn's Tap Outfit

Beautiful Ballerina

Anna danced to:
* All You Need is Love (ballet)
* Peanut Butter Sandwich (tap)

All Smiles!

Sparkles and Polka Dots

Highlights of the show:

Watching Carolyn show a huge leap in skills from last year. Not just a new dance style (jazz), but new techniques in both ballet and tap.

Watching Anna’s first time up on stage. She did really, amazingly well at entertaining the audience. (Mostly by playing with feathers she’d found on the stage that fell off of someone’s costume instead of dancing, but it was very, very entertaining.)

Mmm, Flowers!

Super Pink Soccer Socks!

I’m surprised the camera sensor didn’t completely wig out when I tried to take this picture.  Those socks are intense!

Minions

I wonder if I should be concerned that the little game Anna has made up with some Hello Kitty squinkies involves the liberal (and correct) usage of the word “minions”?

Though I must say there’s nothing more hilarious than hearing “minions” in a squeaky little three-year-old voice!

Venus

We tried to use my (very old) telescope to watch the transit of Venus earlier this evening. We dropped a UV filter from my camera in the end and covered the (white) reflection plate with black construction paper to try to tone down the intense sunlight, but even with all that…the pictures were not so great.

Our set-up on the driveway. The neighbors were probably wondering about us!

This is probably the best one – you can see a little “chip” where it’s just starting to cross in front of the sun.

Really, the chip is there. Just past where 3:00 would be on a watch...

Carolyn drew a chalk picture of what we were doing.  That came out much better!

This was what we *tried* to accomplish!
