I needed her to model this pretty frequently.\u00a0 This time, instead of only sewing strips from the bottom up, I also sewed them from the neck, over the top of the head, and back down &#8211; like you would if you were wrapping your head with bandages.\u00a0 This was kind of tricky and I&#8217;m not 100% thrilled with how it came out, but I think overall it&#8217;s a reasonable facsimile of a mummy mask.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3806\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3806\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sarahsthreads.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20111028_mummy_finished4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3806\" title=\"20111028_mummy_finished4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sarahsthreads.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20111028_mummy_finished4-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sarahsthreads.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20111028_mummy_finished4-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sarahsthreads.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/20111028_mummy_finished4.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3806\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The thumb hole and hand wrappings.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Finally, I had Carolyn try on the shirt so I could figure out the end of sleeves\/hands part.\u00a0 I cut a slit between the cuff and shirt for her thumb to stick out, then wrapped strips around the cuff and hand-stitched them down.\u00a0 It takes up the excess sleeve material and acts almost like gloves &#8211; on the bench.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With all the details done, it&#8217;s time for a &#8220;beauty&#8221; shot.\u00a0 That&#8217;s one good-looking mummy costume!\u00a0 Total, I spent $26.\u00a0 I probably could have spent a little less on one of the awful store-bought costumes we saw, but this is much, much better.\u00a0 Carolyn is super happy with how it turned out, too!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I finished up Carolyn&#8217;s Mummy costume today!
